Business Development Manager
Description
Gehrtz Construction Services and Zerr Berg Architects are seeking a dynamic and proactive Business Development Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities across North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. You will work closely with the partnership group and marketing team to identify prospects, educate clients, and build strong relationships with new, existing, and potential clients.
Responsibilities
Client Identification & Engagement:
- Identify and target potential customers.
- Develop and execute business development strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients.
- Conduct presentations to communicate value propositions.
Customer Needs & Solutions:
- Analyze client needs and recommend suitable services.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop sales and marketing collateral.
Relationship Development:
- Identify and cultivate relationships with architect and construction management firms, potential client bases, and within the AEC industry.
- Make cold calls as needed to gather information or establish initial contact.
- Strengthen connections with AEC professionals to generate leads and convert them into projects.
Market Analysis & Strategy:
- Research and evaluate target market sectors.
- Develop and implement short- and long-term strategies to drive business growth.
- Monitor local economic and political trends to recommend actionable insights.
Event Participation:
- Organize and participate in trade shows, industry & client events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
Proposal Coordination:
- Work with the Marketing Proposal Manager on RFP/RFQ responses.
- Assist in preparing and submitting proposals to prospective clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in business development or sales with demonstrated experience in meeting or exceeding goals.
- Outgoing and dynamic individual with proven experience building a sales pipeline through relationships and marketing efforts.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, must have the ability to track information, dates, and details digitally.
- Capability to create and refine business processes from the ground up.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build and sustain relationships based on trust and integrity.
- Business acumen, including knowledge of industry practices and developments (construction processes, delivery models, contract types).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to travel as needed throughout North Dakota & northwest Minnesota.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) field.
- Familiarity with K–12 public education projects.
- Understanding of construction processes, terminology, building types, and costs.
- Knowledge of development, design, construction delivery methods, and risk analysis.
